1. Nhanganyaya
The Uniden Bearcat BCT8 is an advanced Trunk Tracking Scanner equipped with BearTracker technology. This system is designed to monitor various communication frequencies, including public safety, public service, and amateur radio. It features 250 user-programmable memories across 5 banks, allowing for efficient organization and rapid recall of important frequencies. The BearTracker system provides alerts for activity on Highway Patrol link frequencies within approximately a three-mile radius.
2. Key Features
- 250 User Programmable Memories: Organized into 5 banks of 50 channels each, plus 5 priority channels.
- Trunk Tracking III: Capable of following VHF High Band, UHF, and 800MHz trunked public safety and public service systems. Supports multi-track ability for simultaneous monitoring of multiple trunking systems and scanning of conventional/trunked systems.
- BearTracker Yambiro System: Alerts to activity on Highway Patrol link frequencies within approximately three miles.
- Wide Frequency Coverage: Monitors 25-54 MHz, 108-174 MHz, 400-512 MHz, and 806-956 MHz (excluding cellular bands).
- Pre-programmed Service Search: Includes highway patrol frequencies by state for easier setup.
- Tsvaga Lockouts: Allows exclusion of continuous or uninteresting communications for faster searching.
- Dzorera LCD Ratidza: Inovimbisa kuti inoverengwa zvakanaka mumamiriro ekunze asina chiedza chakawanda.
- Kunyanya Kushanda: Helps ensure important transmissions on designated priority channels are not missed.

4. Setup uye Kuiswa
4.1 Kubatanidza Simba
Connect the supplied AC adapter to the scanner's DC 12V jack and plug it into a standard wall outlet. For mobile use, connect the DC power cord or cigarette lighter adapter plug to your vehicle's power source.
4.2 Kubatanidza Antenna
Screw the telescopic antenna into the antenna jack on the scanner. For improved reception, especially in a vehicle, use the window mount antenna or an external antenna (sold separately).
4.3 Simba rekutanga Rakabatidzwa
Press the power button to turn on the scanner. The display will illuminate, and the unit will begin its startup sequence. Adjust the volume control to a comfortable listening level.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Kutanga Kuskena
To begin scanning, ensure that at least one bank has programmed frequencies. Press the SCAN button. The scanner will cycle through active frequencies in the enabled banks. Press BATA to stop on a specific frequency.
5.2 Using Banks
The BCT8 organizes frequencies into 5 banks. To enable or disable a bank for scanning, press the corresponding number button (1-5) while in scan mode. An enabled bank will show its number on the display.
5.3 Priority Channel
Designate a channel as a priority channel to ensure you don't miss important transmissions. The scanner will periodically check the priority channel even while scanning other frequencies. Refer to the full operating guide for detailed steps on setting a priority channel.
5.4 Chiratidziro cheBacklight
Press the CHIEDZA button to activate the display backlight for improved visibility in dark environments.
5.5 Search Lockouts
During a search, you can temporarily or permanently lock out frequencies that are continuously active or not of interest. This helps to speed up the search process. Consult the detailed manual for lockout procedures.
6. Trunk Tracking Operation
The TrunkTracker III system allows the BCT8 to follow conversations on trunked radio systems. This means you can monitor a complete conversation even if it moves across different frequencies within the system. The scanner automatically manages the frequency changes. The multi-track ability allows monitoring of multiple trunking systems simultaneously.
7. BearTracker Warning System
The BearTracker Warning System is designed to alert you to activity on Highway Patrol link frequencies. When the system detects activity within approximately a three-mile radius, the scanner will provide an audible and/or visual alert. This feature is particularly useful for situational awareness.
8. Programming Frequencies
Frequencies can be programmed into the BCT8 manually using the keypad or via a computer using the provided Remote Programming Software Demo CD-ROM. Manual programming involves entering frequencies directly into desired bank channels. PC programming offers a more streamlined approach for managing a large number of frequencies and settings.
